The Placebo

He wasn’t feeling well so he went to the doctor. The doctor couldn’t find anything wrong with him but he could tell that he wouldn’t accept that so the doctor gave him some free sample pills. He felt better by the next day and every few months he visited the doctor for more pills. He swore by the pills since he felt better than he had in years.

That was until the day the label pealed back. It revealed that the pills were fake. After he discovered this he started feeling sick again. It was worse than before. He longed for the feeling he felt when he thought (knew) that the pills were real. Maybe he could pretend that they were still effective? Maybe he could check with the doctor for a way to lose the memory of this discovery? The problem was he knew it was too late.

Should he go back to taking the pills?

Since he now knows they were fake, will they still work?
